Love on the Brain

Edit: I've had this review in my drafts for over a year! I honestly don't know how that happened... please enjoy my review anyway and make sure to pick up a copy of her new book Love, Theoretically.

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley books for an ARC. Love on the Brain will be available on August 23, 2022.

Not to be dramatic but I think Love on the Brain has ruined every book I was looking forward to reading this year. I feel so incredibly lucky and so grateful that I was able to read an ARC of one of the most anticipated books of the year.

Bee is a neuroscientist who has been offered an amazing opportunity to co-lead a project at NASA. What should be an exciting time is quickly turned into disappointment because she has to work with Levi, her college rival. Even though Levi caught Bee in the most romantic cliché way possible, she is going to keep whatever attraction deep down, because it's Levi! Levi made it clear in the past that he was not interested. This book has some of my favorite romance tropes, such as rivals to lovers, and miscommunication.

If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would. Ali Hazelwood is a very talented author. She really knows how to make you feel the tension, the romance, and the heartbreak. She knows how to take you on a journey and make sure that you enjoy it the whole way through. The premise is fun, the tension is thick, the falling out is suspenseful, and the climax is the kind of stuff that will keep you reading into all hours of the night to see what will happen next.

One of my favorite things about Hazelwood is that she knows how to write witty banter that will make me laugh. Even though there are tons of fun and cute moments, there are still several times throughout the book that made me contemplate my own life.

This is probably one of my favorite books of all time. (I am only a little bit biased because Marie Curie is one of my all time favorite scientists and this book is full of fun and amazing references to her). It's great to see how Hazelwood has grown in her writing and storytelling. She has cemented herself into my automatic buy list, and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

This sounds great! I also love rivals to lovers (friends to lovers is fine, but rivals to lovers just has a little something extra). And witty banter is a great selling point. I'm in! :)
